How to open a Command Prompt
Below are the instructions to open a Command Prompt in Windows; the window which we will use to run these tests and the window with which we will gather our results.
In Windows XP:
- Click on the Start button
- Select Run (Windows Key + R will also open the Run window)
- Type “CMD” and click OK
In Windows 10 and Windows 7:
- Click on the Start button
- In the small, white Search box above the Start Button, type “CMD”
- Hit Enter
Running the Ping Test
- In the Command Prompt window, type the following: ping -n 1000 4.2.2.2
- There is a space between each “word”, for example ping[space]-n[space]1000[space]4.2.2.2
- Hit Enter on your keyboard, and if done correctly, you should start seeing replies
- When this part of the test is done, you will see no more replies and results of the test:
Compiling your results and emailing them back to us
First, we need to copy the information from the Command Prompt
- Click on the little icon in the upper/left part of the Command prompt window
- Under “Edit”, choose “Select All”
- Next, click on the little icon again, but this time choose Edit / Copy
Now, we need to paste this information into a new email and sent it to the Helpdesk.
- Start a new email and address it to: helpdesk@percepta.com
- In the Subject of the email, put your name and your ticket number (Example: James Smith – 1265403)
- Paste the information that you just copied from the Command Prompt into this new email (it will make the email long, that’s ok).
- Send the email and then you can call us to review your results
