How to open a Command Prompt

Below are the instructions to open a Command Prompt in Windows; the window which we will use to run these tests and the window with which we will gather our results.

In Windows XP:

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Select Run (Windows Key + R will also open the Run window)
  3. Type “CMD” and click OK

In Windows 10 and Windows 7:

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. In the small, white Search box above the Start Button, type “CMD”
  3. Hit Enter

Running the Ping Test

  1. In the Command Prompt window, type the following: ping -n 1000 4.2.2.2
    • There is a space between each “word”, for example ping[space]-n[space]1000[space]4.2.2.2
  2. Hit Enter on your keyboard, and if done correctly, you should start seeing replies
  3. When this part of the test is done, you will see no more replies and results of the test:

Compiling your results and emailing them back to us

First, we need to copy the information from the Command Prompt

  1. Click on the little icon in the upper/left part of the Command prompt window
  2. Under “Edit”, choose “Select All”
  3. Next, click on the little icon again, but this time choose Edit / Copy

Now, we need to paste this information into a new email and sent it to the Helpdesk.

  1. Start a new email and address it to: helpdesk@percepta.com
  2. In the Subject of the email, put your name and your ticket number (Example: James Smith – 1265403)
  3. Paste the information that you just copied from the Command Prompt into this new email (it will make the email long, that’s ok).
  4. Send the email and then you can call us to review your results
